Editorial Policy
Our Standards for Accuracy, Independence, and Calendar Research
1. Our Editorial Independence
KalnirnayOnline.com is an independent informational and reference website. We are not affiliated with, authorised by, sponsored by, or endorsed by Sumangal Press or the official Kalnirnay printed publication. All editorial choices, data structures, and website features are developed independently for public informational reference.
2. How We Research Calendar Dates
Traditional Hindu calendar dates, fasting observances (Vrats), and public holidays are gathered from publicly documented sources, including:
- Official state and national government gazette notifications for declared public holidays.
- Established Shalivahana Shaka Amanta tradition reference texts for regional Marathi observances.
- Standard Vedic Jyotish guidelines for festival classification (Shukla/Krishna Paksha, Tithi alignments, and Nishita/Pradosh Kaal requirements).
We do not copy private copyrighted material or claim exclusive calculations without proper provenance.
3. Three-Tier Verification Status System
To prevent the dissemination of inaccurate astrological or religious claims, all dated entries in our data repository are governed by a strict status code:
- Verified: The date is fixed by government gazette (e.g., Republic Day, Independence Day, Maharashtra Day) or confirmed across multiple established sources.
- Requires Review: A discrepancy exists between different calendar traditions or regional conventions (e.g., Purnimanta vs. Amanta calculations, or conflicting lunar tithi boundaries). In such cases, we note the discrepancy openly and avoid presenting unconfirmed exact timings as absolute facts.
- Unverified: Preliminary calendar information that has not yet undergone full independent cross-referencing.
4. Panchang Information & Geographic Limitations
Panchang elements—specifically Tithi, Nakshatra, Yoga, Karana, Sunrise, Sunset, and Rahu Kaal—depend strictly on the local longitude, latitude, and sunrise timings of a specific location. Our primary reference coordinate is Pune, Maharashtra (18.5204° N, 73.8567° E).
Because timings vary from city to city, calendar timings displayed on this site should be treated as general reference points. Users scheduling important rituals, marriages, or religious ceremonies are strongly advised to consult an authorized local priest or trusted regional almanac.
5. Transparency & Ongoing Verification
We do not claim our calendar data is official or infallible. We continuously audit our files to resolve contradictions and update data entries. If you identify any errors or conflicting information, please review our Corrections Policy and reach out through our Contact page.
